How to Measure True Time with Google Analytics

If you are familiar with how web analytics tools measure time spent on page or site, you know that time spent on the last page is (usually) counted as 0 seconds. With other words, time on last page is not measured.
The reason this isn't measured is simply that the web analytics tool need to have a start point and a end point. On the last page of the visitors visit, there isn't a end point normally to calculate time against.
To be able to get time spent on last page you have to be able measure 2 things:
- Clicks on Back Button
- Visitors leaving by Closing their Browser or Browser Tab
In this article I show you how you can measure "True" Time spent on your website with Google Analytics by measuring Back Button and Visitors who leave by Closing their Browser.

One question I often get from webmasters running content websites is:
Do people read my articles, and is it possible to identify this with Google Analytics?
Their bounce rate is perhaps high, and therefor also time spent on site is reported as low. Is it really so that all these visitors came, saw, puked and left, or did the visitor read the article and found value in the content?
In this article I will try and answer how you can use Google Analytics to measure if people are reading your articles.
How to activate 4Q Survey with a link integrated with Google Analytics Asynchronous tracking

4Q Survey is a free survey tool for collection feedback from the visitor which may help you to understand why the visitor is at your website, and if they were able to complete their task.
Recently 4Q Survey added integration with Google Analytics, which makes you capable of collecting the 4Q Survey data into Google Analytics using Custom Variables. This is great since you now can connect visitor behaviour (click data) with visitor purpose.
There are however 2 improvements I would like:
- The Google Analytics integration is using the old Google Analytics code, and not the new Google Analytics asynchronous code.
- Visitors can't activate the survey by clicking a link. Instead X percent of the visitors will be asked if they are willing to answer the survey.
Instead of just waiting for the 4Q Survey team to perhaps make these improvements some time in the future, I studied how thing works and came up with a solution for activating the 4Q Survey with a link and track it using Google Analytics asynchronous code.
Video Analytics using Google Analytics API and Excel

Google Analytics Event Tracking is a flexible solution for measuring user interaction with your website - including videos. I have demonstrated this before with my YouTube Chromeless Player with Google Analytics Event Tracking (you can download the player from that article).
Since Event Tracking isn't made especially for video analytics, it can be a little bit difficult to understand what the data means.
To make the video analytics data more understandable I have made an Excel 2007 spreadsheet that is connected directly to Google Analytics using the Google Analytics API.

This is just a short notice of an upgrade of my YouTube Chromeless Player with Google Analytics Event Tracking.
The player has been updated with a bug fix and a improvement to the Google Analytics Event Tracking.

For lenge siden ble det opplest og vedtatt at en link skal være blå, og den skal være understreket. Disse retningslinjen har blitt kritisert, og mange nettsider har blitt laget siden den tid med all verdens farger på linker. Jeg ønsket derfor å teste denne teorien ved hjelp av Google Analytics og Google Website Optimizer.
I denne artikkelen beskriver jeg hva resultatet av testen ble, og hvordan testen ble gjennomført. Det spesielle med denne testen er at jeg ikke bruker Google Website Optimizer til å evaluere suksess, men baserer meg på dataene som Google Analytics samler inn.
Google Analytics Individual Qualification (IQ)

Mesteparten av bloggingen min her på Savio.no handler om Google Analytics. Grunnen til dette er at jeg er for deling av kunnskap, og det hjelper meg selv å huske spesielle ting bedre. Med andre ord, bloggen fungerer også som en huskelapp for meg selv i mitt daglige arbeid.
At jeg har valgt å skrive så mye om Google Analytics gjør at jeg også stiller meg "selv for hogg". Den 3. mars ble Google Analytics Individual Qualification (IQ) lansert. Samtidig med testen lanserte også Google Conversion University for å hjelpe folk til å forberede seg til testen eller bli en mer kunnskapsrik Google Analytics bruker.

Google Analytics Campaign URL builder with Short URL and Twitter posting

Another reason for lousy campaign data, are that the marketers are creating infunctional campaign URLs because they don't know much about URLs.
And to be honest, the Google Analytics tool builder isn't the best tool in the world for creating campaign URLs.

In a blog post from the Google Analytics team a couple of days ago, Google announced some changes to their URLs. Blogstorm did investigate these new URLs further, and asked the question: Google Adds Ranking Data to Referrer String? They were correct about their assumptions.
So - here is how you can track keyword and keyword rankings with Google Analytics, and what I think you should be aware of.
Hvilke linker klikker dine besøkende på?

Klikker dine besøkende på overskriften eller les mer linken når de klikker seg inn til en artikkel, eller hvilke av menyelementene på nettsiden din benyttes til navigering? Beklager, det kan ikke Google Analytics fortelle deg, i hvert fall ikke "rett ut av boksen".
